BioLargo Continuing Operations Through the COVID-19 Crisis- Answering the call for hand sanitizer production

Press Release Issued March 23.

Answering the call for hand sanitizer production

Westminster, CA – March 23, 2020 – BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQB:BLGO), developer of sustainable technologies and a full-service environmental engineering company, today released a statement from its President & CEO, Dennis P. Calvert about how it and its subsidiaries are handling the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

Dear Stockholder,

We believe that BioLargo is uniquely positioned to weather the storm of the COVID-19 crisis. Many of our major clients constitute “essential services” – such as municipalities, landfills, air force bases, and so forth. As we are supporting these essential services, our commercial units are continuing to operate and are still solving clients’ challenges every day.

Part 1 – How the crisis is affecting our operations

Our Odor No More air quality control division provides an essential service to the waste handling industry, and will continue to do so every day. It continues installations of misting systems at waste facilities, continues to make sales calls, and continues to manufacture, sell and ship product to its customers. Odor-No-More’s joint venture in South Korea is proceeding as planned and expects to begin operations in the next 30 days. (Details Here)

Our environmental engineering division in Tennessee has a backlog of commercial opportunities. Its engineers are working every day – at home where possible, in an effort to promote social distancing. Existing clients include the seven United States Air Force (USAF) bases, its waste to energy conversion plant project on the East coast, and its magnesium extraction project in Northern California. New business opportunities continue to present themselves and they are busy making proposals and bids that are moving forward. We also have multiple bids out to serve additional U.S. Air Force bases as part of an expanded effort to serve this key client.

Although COVID-19 dominates the news, PFAS water contamination is still a priority concern for municipalities all over the country. We are cautiously optimistic about our EPA Phase II grant application to accelerate the PFAS development work to go commercial and expect to hear from the EPA soon.

Part 2 – Answering the call for a hand sanitizer

Our Canadian team at BioLargo Water has a number of assets at its disposal to answer the call to produce needed hand sanitizers in this emergency situation.  Our team is formulating a proprietary product using our core technology, in response to a Canadian government request for these high-demand products. Relaxed interim regulations from Health Canada designed to expedite product review and approval encourage company management to believe there is strong potential for rapid production and sales. Our team is uniquely qualified to serve this need with offices located at a government facility (the University of Alberta) that has a fully equipped, qualified and licensed manufacturing facility. With a team of science professionals that have already received over 70 research grants, their technical skills are well known in government circles. They have access to the chemical ingredients and formulations necessary to produce the product. Finally, BioLargo has entered into contract negotiations with a Canadian distributor to manage the selling process. Additional partners and assets are being evaluated to ensure the process can move swiftly.

BioLargo Water also continues to work on the commercial pilot project a Sunworks Farm, the last step before full commercialization of the AOS, as well as wrapping up its storm water demonstration pilot. The team has also expanded its grant application activity to support its growing list of opportunities for commercial pilots.

It also has a new Regulation Crowdfunding program available at www.waterworksfund.com and we encourage you to see that site for more details about BioLargo Water. We believe it will help us get the word out about our breakthrough science as well as create awareness of the investment opportunity.

Part 3 – How the crisis is affecting the company at large

As we all know, the COVID-19 crisis is creating dramatic changes around the world, in every facet of society. The overall drop of the stock market has contributed to extreme pressure on BioLargo’s stock. You know that we have successfully weathered a number of storms in the past, and with your continued support, we believe that we can weather this one too.

Despite the current market challenges presented by the COVID-19 outbreak, BioLargo continues to forge ahead. Assuming adequate financing and continued investor support to complement the company’s existing financing facility through Lincoln Park Capital, BioLargo stands poised to not only survive the crisis, but emerge strong and ready for growth as its technologies find adoption through partnerships around the world and as growth capital becomes accessible. It is more important than ever for the company’s allies to continue their support for the company. Together, we can be successful in building BioLargo into a world-class, leading innovator in cleantech products and services, as we know it is destined to be.

Finally, our hearts go out to every single person affected by the COVID-19 pandemic – those who have been personally and directly affected by the disease, those who have been financially burdened by its impacts, and those whose livelihoods are threatened by the prospect of a protracted economic downturn. It is our true hope and belief that this crisis comes to a speedy end, for everyone’s sake.

Part 4 – Our internal response and policies

We wanted to discuss how we as a company are promoting responsible organizational behavior to protect our employees, subcontractors, partners, and customers from spread of the virus:

  • We have formalized company-wide COVID-19 Employee Guides for both our US- and Canada-based business units that provide specific guidelines on hygiene, respiratory etiquette, social distancing, self-isolation, travel restrictions, and more
  • We are requiring that any employee who develops cold- or flu-like symptoms stays at home and quarantine for the CDC-recommended period of 14 days, and managers are adopting highly flexible sick leave policies to accommodate such practices
  • Any employee able to carry out normal work functions from home is currently doing so
  • All company meetings are now virtual using online conferencing tools
  • All company travel to conferences, trade shows, and non-essential business development trips are postponed or canceled
  • Our sales and Business Development teams continue to keep an open dialogue with our clients to ensure the safety of all employees
  • Safety equipment is checked daily to ensure all employees are amply protected as they are working
  • Office and warehouse areas are sanitized several times daily for those who must work at a main location.

Finally, we encourage any of our investors, followers, and supporters to reach out to us if they have any questions or comments about how BioLargo is handling the COVID-19 crisis, or to discuss the science and social aspects of this world event. BioLargo Reveals Scaled Up Commercial Design for AOS Water Treatment Technology

Manufacturing is in process

Figure 1: 500 GPM AOS Prototype (4 cylinders)

Westminster, CA – March 17, 2020 – BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQB:BLGO), developer of sustainable technologies and a full-service environmental engineering company, announced that it has designed and is manufacturing a scaled up commercial prototype of its proprietary Advanced Oxidation System (AOS) that is capable of processing 500 gallons of water per minute (“GPM”), a volume commensurate with the flowrate requirements of many commercial applications.

The new design utilizes the Spiral AOS geometry in order to achieve greater flowrate capacity without sacrificing size, and is expected to be the most energy-efficient model of the AOS technology to-date. This new design is modular and easily scalable by increasing or decreasing the number of AOS spiral reactors (the long horizontal cylinders seen here), each of which is expected to be capable of 125 GPM.

The 500 GPM AOS unit (seen in Figure 1) is suitable for use in many commercial settings, including poultry processing and the stormwater treatment and water reuse market, where the company is currently pursuing commercial piloting opportunities, as well as secondary markets which include stormwater, food & beverage, industrial and oil & gas, agriculture, and municipal.
Dr. Richard Smith, President of Biolargo Water remarked, “BioLargo’s engineering team has made it possible to accelerate the transformation of the AOS from a small, bench-scale unit to a pilot unit, and now to a commercially viable large-scale water treatment system. We are fortunate to have access to those experienced engineers.”

BioLargo Engineering President Randall Moore, a 20+ year veteran in delivering environmental engineering services, commented, “Producing a 500 GPM AOS system is the next requisite step in the commercialization of the AOS technology. Moving to this larger scale (approximately one cubic foot per second) immediately changes the AOS from a research-focused prototype into a viable, commercial water disinfection option for multiple industries. As a modular system, much higher flow rates than 500 GPM are possible. A ten by ten array of 500 GPM AOS units could effectively disinfect 50,000 GPM, needed for large scale applications such as municipal water treatment plants. This important scale-up step brings with it a world of opportunity.”

BioLargo, Inc. President & CEO Dennis P. Calvert commented, “This a momentous day for BioLargo Water and the AOS technology as it puts behind us the question of whether we can scale the AOS technology to meet the high volume needs of the very large water treatment market. It also highlights the collaborative design and manufacturing effort between BioLargo Water and our engineering team at BLEST.”

BioLargo Water currently has a crowdfunding opportunity open on the WaterWorks Crowdfunding platform through its parent company BioLargo Water Investment Group. To learn more about this opportunity to invest in BioLargo Water, go to www.waterworksfund.com.

BioLargo Delivers Innovative Technology And Solutions For Environmental Problems

To read the source version of this interview, visit TechCompanyNews at the following link: https://www.techcompanynews.com/biolargo-delivers-innovative-technology-and-solutions-for-environmental-problems/

BioLargo is a cleantech company that creates innovative technology and solutions for problems such as air quality, water contamination, and tough environmental problems like PFAS contamination. Below is our recent interview with Dennis P. Calvert, President & CEO of BioLargo:

Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to BioLargo?
A: What makes BioLargo especially unique as a cleantech company is that we don’t just develop innovative, patented technologies – we are also a full-service environmental engineering company that can tackle an incredibly vast range of engineering challenges thanks to our services team that averages 20+ years experience in the field (including high-profile work like dioxin remediation, anthrax remediation for the US Government, post-Katrina clean up in New Orleans, rebuilding water and wastewater systems in Haiti after its hurricane disasters and a long list of work for the Department of Defense). Individually, these components of our business are important, but together they create an environment where we are capable of solving a wide array of tough environmental challenges. This, in the end, is our mission – to solve tough environmental challenges and make the world a better, healthier place.

Q: Could you tell us something more about the technologies you’re commercializing?
A: BioLargo holds over 20 issued patents for innovative cleantech technologies and processes and we are still innovating. So far, our top innovations include: 1) our AEC treatment technology for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a water contaminant that is creating a widespread regulatory crisis to remove these ‘forever chemicals’ with municipalities and industry scrambling to find good, affordable solutions. 2) CupriDyne Clean odor and VOC control, a patented air quality control product that eliminates odor-causing compounds in the air rather than masking them now being adopted by the solid waste handling industry and with new distribution shaping up for the wastewater treatment industry. It’s an amazing product because not only is it extremely effective, its eco-friendly, non-toxic, and more affordable that other products and then 3) Our Advanced Oxidation System (AOS) a low-energy, low-cost water treatment technology that utilizes a specialized iodine electrochemical oxidative process to eliminate hard-to-remove water contaminants, while consuming record-low electrical power.

Each of these technologies are designed to be a best-in-class contender for solving a tough environmental challenge, and each is designed to be deployed into the market to validate their value proposition as we expand market share through partners around the world.
Q: You’ve recently announced crowdfunding offering of water subsidiary opportunity to invest in water treatment technology; could you tell us something more?
A: The best place to learn about BioLargo Water’s crowdfunding effort is right on their Crowdfunding Offering page, which you can find at www.waterworksfund.com.

The folks at WaterWorks had a vision to do two things: the first was to identify innovative solutions for solving modern water treatment challenges, and the second was to help accelerate the development and commercialization of technologies like these by allowing everyday people to invest in the opportunities. They recognized us as a significant water treatment innovator in line with their mission and that really meshed with their culture of pursuing innovation and opportunity.
Q: Why is now the time for a technology solution provider like BioLargo?
A: When I get this question, I often think of the famous Wayne Gretsky quote, “Skate to where the puck is going, not where it has been.”. That’s the way BioLargo works – we target the problems of tomorrow, not the problems of yesterday, and we address them with technology solutions that feature high innovation and high value so that they offer the best chance possible to disrupt their targeted markets.

A good example of this is our PFAS treatment solution, the AEC. We recognized early on that PFAS contamination was becoming an extremely hot topic and widespread problem, and we moved to start developing a treatment solution for it, receiving grant funding from the EPA to do it. We’re now positioned to be a cutting-edge PFAS treatment solution provider.

Examples of technological advancement, like our PFAS technology, were a direct result of our company culture of innovation, where we aim to empower our engineers, scientists, and business leaders to push the envelope and take risks to test new ideas. We are designed to be nimble, and more readily anticipate where the “puck” is going so that we can solve the problem of tomorrow. Our continued success has been and will continue to be ‘by-design’, recruiting the right talent and creating an environment where preparation meets opportunity.

Commercially, we continue to expand sales with national accounts and build new partner relationships like our recent manufacturing partnership with South Korea’s leading wastewater treatment company BKT and Tomorrow Water.

Q: What are some of the main objectives for BioLargo in 2020 and how do you plan to achieve them?
A: Our current, overarching goal is to continue our current transformation from a tech development company to a commercial solutions provider, meaning growing our revenues from product sales and services and exploiting the well-defined innovations and opportunities we have found.

Specifically, we intend to pursue partnership opportunities with industry leaders. Our goals include pursuing a 2-3X top-line monthly revenue growth, continued sales and marketing investment in the waste handling industry for our air quality control products and services, secure new channel partners for new markets, such as wastewater, and drive profitability. We also intend to launch our first commercial trial for our AOS clean water technology in the near future, commercialize our PFAS treatment technology, the AEC, and continue to drive commercial sales across all our product lines. We intend to invest to grow, and continue improving our balance sheet.

BioLargo, Inc. Updates The Stock Day Podcast On Commercialization of PFAS Solution

Phoenix, Arizona--(Newsfile Corp. - March 9, 2020) - The Stock Day Podcast welcomed BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQB: BLGO) ("the Company"), developer of sustainable products and a full-service environmental engineering company focused on products for air quality control, water treatment, and more. BioLargo President & CEO Dennis P. Calvert joined Stock Day Podcast host Everett Jolly for an interview about BioLargo's recent company milestones.

Jolly began the interview by asking Calvert for an update on the PFAS crisis and BioLargo's solution for this issue. "This is [being referred to as] the contaminant of the decade," said Calvert. "Some people estimate that it now touches about 98% of the world's population. [In high concentration] it has been linked to adverse health effects now and there are proposals before Congress to [designate] the contaminated sites super-fund sites which would qualify them for federal funding," Calvert explained.

Calvert then expanded on the high costs associated with the treatment of PFAS-contaminated wells, noting that well decontamination across the United States would represent a multi-billion dollar project given the current solutions available on the market. However, BioLargo has developed a scalable and cost-effective solution for this crisis. "We received an EPA grant about nine months ago and we're in application for Phase II," said Calvert. "We're advancing the work," he added, noting that this includes scaling the technology as they prepare for commercial trials.

Jolly asked about the potential of BioLargo's other innovations. Calvert commented, "Now at every level in the company, we're in discussions with industry leaders about partnering and licensing." Calvert noted that the PFAS solution represents the Company's fastest growing innovation, but expressed his confidence in the value of their additional technologies.

Jolly asked about BioLargo's financial goals. "On the financing side, the key for us is to really stay away from debt," said Calvert, noting that the Company has almost finished paying off its convertible debt. "Now we're at the point where we need to put capital to work and then push that top-line revenue dramatically forward, and also be alert for licensing," said Calvert. "It's all getting better. This painful era is behind us and we're intact and the business has never been better."

About BioLargo, Inc.

BioLargo, Inc. is an innovative technology developer and environmental engineering company driven by a mission to "make life better" by delivering robust, sustainable solutions for a broad range of industries and applications, with a focus on clean water, clean air, and advanced wound care. We develop and commercialize disruptive technologies by providing the capital, support, and expertise to expedite them from "cradle" to "maturity" (www.biolargo.com). Our engineering division features experienced professional engineers dedicated to integrity, reliability, and environmental stewardship (www.biolargoengineering.com). Our industrial odor control division, Odor-No-More (www.odornomore.com) features CupriDyne Clean Industrial Odor Eliminator (www.cupridyne.com), which eliminates the odor-causing compounds and VOCs rather than masking them, and is now winning over leading companies in the solid waste handling and wastewater industries and other industries that contend with malodors and VOCs. Our subsidiary BioLargo Water (www.biolargowater.ca) develops the Advanced Oxidation System "AOS," a disruptive industrial water treatment technology designed to eliminate waterborne pathogens and recalcitrant contaminants with better energy-efficiency and lower operational costs than incumbent technologies. Our subsidiary Clyra Medical (www.clyramedical.com) features effective and gentle solutions for chronic infected wounds to promote infection control and regenerative tissue therapy.

About LD Micro

LD Micro was founded in 2006 with the sole purpose of being an independent resource in the microcap space. What started out as a newsletter highlighting unique companies has transformed into an event platform hosting several influential conferences annually (Invitational, Summit, and Main Event).

In 2015, LDM launched the first pure microcap index (the LDMi) to exclusively provide intraday information on the entire sector. LD will continue to provide valuable tools for the benefit of everyone in the small and microcap universe.

For those interested in attending, please contact David Scher at david@ldmicro.com or visit www.ldmicro.com for more information.
