BioLargo Second Quarter Report Highlights Continued Progress, New Revenue, Contracts, Pilot Projects and Strengthened Balance Sheet

BioLargo Welcomes Waste Industry Veteran Mitch Noto to its Team

Dennis Calvert, CEO of BioLargo Inc. Joins the Stock Day Podcast to Discuss New Contracts and Federal Grants

BioLargo Water Begins Demonstration Pilot for its Advanced Oxidation System (AOS) to Treat Captured Stormwater in Southern California


Westminster, CA – July 31 2019 – BioLargo, Inc. (OTCQB:BLGO), developer of sustainable science and technologies and a full-service environmental engineering company, today announced that its Canadian subsidiary BioLargo Water, Inc. has commenced a pre-commercial demonstration pilot that will utilize the company’s Advanced Oxidation System (AOS) to treat captured stormwater in Southern California at BioLargo’s Westminster, California facility. The pilot’s goal is to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of deploying the AOS to enable stormwater treatment and reuse, an important and emerging water management application in the US and Canada. The pilot project is supported in part by research and development funding of to up to $189,000 from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP).













BioLargo Water will collaborate on the project with Richard Watson & Associates, Inc. and Carollo Engineers, Inc. Richard Watson has been active in stormwater quality management since 1990 and currently consults to three watershed management groups in Los Angeles County. Carollo Engineers, a leading environmental engineering firm providing cost-effective, innovative, and reliable water treatment solutions, will provide engineering and water treatment validation for the project.

The goals of this demonstration pilot will focus on the efficacy of the AOS to treat captured stormwater to water reuse standards. The pilot will also help establish the capital and operating costs of the AOS in this application, a crucial step before potential commercial pilot clients and paying customers would consider the technology in this industrial setting.

BioLargo Engineering Awarded Additional U.S. Air Force Subcontract

This new contract, for bases in Kansas and Illinois, follows the recent award of subcontracts to provide services to USAF bases in Texas and Arizona.   











The subcontracts are a result of “teaming agreements” with Bhate Environmental Associates, Inc. (www.bhate.com), as prime-contractor, to prepare bids for submission to the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for environmental services on Air Force bases throughout the country. Bhate assembled a multi-disciplinary team of four companies, including BLEST, to provide services to the USAF in what is commonly referred to as “fence-to-fence environmental services” call orders.  These fence-to-fence (F2F) projects include a menu of environmental engineering services, which focus on hazardous waste, hazardous materials, air quality, water quality, natural and cultural resources.









The total value of this contract awarded to Bhate is approximately $3 million over a five-year term, of which the subcontractors will receive a portion (first year guaranteed, and GSA can extend for four additional years). In addition to this awarded contract, BLEST is working closely with Bhate to pursue similar environmental projects for the USAF which are in various stages of bids and consideration.

BioLargo Engineering Awarded U.S. Air Force Subcontracts

WASHINGTON — Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $2.3 million in funding for 21 small businesses to develop technologies that will help protect human health and the environment by monitoring air quality, treating drinking water, cleaning up contaminated sites, and creating greener, less toxic materials.
“These funds support small businesses that have developed new technologies to monitor air quality, test for PFAS, and address other pressing environmental challenges,” said EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. “Through EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research program, we provide important assistance to entrepreneurs as they develop innovative solutions that will strengthen both environmental protections and economic growth.” 
These 21 small businesses are receiving Phase I contracts from EPA’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which awards contracts annually through a two-phase competition. Companies compete for a Phase I award of up to $100,000 by submitting research that addresses key environmental issues. After receiving a Phase I award, companies are eligible to compete for a Phase II award of up to $300,000 to further develop and commercialize the technology.

Their processes recover nutrients such as phosphorus, carbon and nitrogen in wastewater and convert the excess nutrients into sustainable slow-release fertilizers, branded under the name GreenEdge®, which are being sold commercially throughout the country and internationally.
