BioLargo Spotlight: BioLargo Engineering President Randall Moore Presents on the Company’s PFAS Treatment Technology at Sustain SoCal’s Water Solutions 4 Conference

On Thursday this week (August 29, 2019), BioLargo Engineering President Randall Moore was selected to join a panel of esteemed experts and thought leaders to discuss water contamination and solutions at Sustain SoCal’s Water Solutions 4 Conference at UC Irvine, where leaders in water remediation and management of emerging contaminants met to discuss potential solutions to a hot topic in water treatment – “PFAS” contaminants.

PFAS, or per-/poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), are a class of water contaminants of rising concern in the US and globally. PFAS have been linked to cancer, fertility problems, asthma, and more, and are present in a vast range of manufactured goods including food, common household products (e.g., cleaning products, cookware), and electronics. PFAS also pose widespread and serious water safety problems around the world, with governments and industry actively seeking new technologies and processes to eliminate PFAS from groundwater and drinking water.

In spring (2019), BioLargo Engineering was awarded an EPA SBIR Phase I grant to develop new solutions to treating PFAS contamination in water. According to BioLargo Engineering’s President Randall Moore, they’re already making great headway in developing a proprietary technology that has the potential to help solve the PFAS problem. Preliminary results in BioLargo Engineering’s work on its novel technology – the Aqueous Electrostatic Concentrator – have been promising, and the company expects to report more information soon. BioLargo Engineering was invited to take part in the Water Solutions 4 panel on PFAS contamination because of the company’s rising status as an innovator in PFAS contamination and management.

The conference had several noteworthy presenters including Congressman Harley Rouda, representative of California’s 48th district and Chairman of the Congressional Committee on the Environment and member of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment. The conference’s title sponsors were the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, the Moulton Niguel Water District, and BioLargo.

You can watch Randall Moore’s presentation about BioLargo Engineering’s PFAS treatment technology, delivered at Water Solutions 4, below. You can expect more news from BioLargo soon covering the company’s role in PFAS management and treatment.
